A federal jury has convicted a Bronx gang member of racketeering and attempted murder in a 2022 shooting that seriously wounded an 11-month-old girl.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York said Samuel Bautista fired at a rival dealer on January 19, 2022, but missed and struck the baby while she sat in a car seat beside her mother. She survived. Prosecutors described Bautista as a member of 2860, a violent drug-trafficking organization and street gang based at 2860 Grand Concourse.

Following a two-week trial, jurors found Bautista guilty of racketeering conspiracy, attempted murder and assault in aid of racketeering, and multiple firearms and drug-related offenses. Prosecutors said he faces a combined mandatory minimum sentence of 25 years. Sentencing is scheduled for December 2, 2026.
